Dedrick's Story
Dedrick Weathersby is an Emmy Award-winning actor, author, playwright, producer, and the Founder/Executive Director of Super Bad Theater Company. A 2022 Emmy Award Winner for his work with Theatre Corner on PBS/KPBS, Dedrick is also a multi-time Broadway World Award Winner and NAACP Award Winner. He has performed extensively in regional, and national Broadway touring productions, and is a proud member of Actors' Equity, SAG-AFTRA, and the Dramatists Guild.
Dedrick is widely recognized as the creator and star of the hit national touring show Remembering James – The Life and Music of James Brown, as well as the playwright behind The New Teacher (a stage play comedy) and Tutti Frutti: The Musical- The Life and Music of Little Richard. Beyond the stage, he is a dedicated philanthropist who has quietly given over $100,000 in scholarships to graduating students of color pursuing the performing arts and business entrepreneurship. He is also the author of six published books, including How I See Myself: Short Inspirational Vignettes for African American Youth.
Holding dual degrees in Musical Theatre and Business Management, Dedrick recognizes that the arts open doors that other industries cannot. To pass his knowledge down to the next generation, he developed the Youth Creative Ethics Workshop. This proprietary curriculum moves beyond traditional acting classes to teach "The Pillars of Theatre," focusing on loyalty, empathy, critical thinking, teamwork, and self-expression. By merging high level performing arts instruction with holistic character development, Dedrick equips students not only to shine under the stage lights but to navigate real-world challenges with confidence, strong ethics, and creativity.
