Dr. Ellie Wu
DMA in Piano Performance | Russian Piano Tradition
Dr. Wu is a pianist and dedicated educator with over 12 years of teaching experience, working with students from young beginners to advanced pianists.
She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Performance from the University of North Texas, a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Manhattan School of Music, and a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
At the University of North Texas, Dr. Wu studied with renowned pianist Vladimir Viardo, Gold Medalist of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Her musical training is deeply influenced by the Russian Neuhaus piano tradition, with a strong emphasis on natural technique, freedom from unnecessary tension, refined touch, tone production, and expressive sound.
Dr. Wu believes that technique should always serve musical expression. Her teaching helps students develop a healthy and efficient physical approach to the instrument while learning to listen critically, shape beautiful tone, understand musical structure and style, and ultimately develop their own artistic voice.

As an active performer, Dr. Wu has appeared in the United States, China, Italy, Spain, France, and Japan. Her international honors include prizes at the Thomas F. Hulbert International Piano Competition, WPTA Finland and Italy International Piano Competitions, Napolinova World Piano Competition, Golden Classical Music Awards, and other competitions.
Dr. Wu teaches in both English and Mandarin Chinese and welcomes students from beginner through advanced levels.
At the heart of her teaching is a simple goal: to help each student build a strong and healthy technique, discover a beautiful and personal sound, and develop the musical independence and curiosity needed for a lifelong relationship with music.
